February 9-19, 2006 - SPORTING EVENT - Amarillo: National Cutting Horse Association World Championship Finals. Over 500 of the top riders and cutting horses vie for the title "World Champion" in a week-long event at the Amarillo National Center. It is the largest equestrian event in Amarillo. Time: 8am-8pm. Cost: free. Location: Amarillo National Center--Tri-State Fairgrounds at 10th and Grand Street. Region: Texas Panhandle Plains. Average attendance: under 250,000. April 28, 2006 - FESTIVAL - Lubbock: 28th Annual Lubbock Arts Festival. The Lubbock Arts Festival features booths displaying various types of art and international foods, exhibits by the humanities, and several musical performances. Be sure to bring the kids along to visit the children's center, where they can create their own works of art. Location: South Plains Fairgrounds. Region: Texas Panhandle Plains. May 20, 2006 - FESTIVAL - Graham: Art Splash on the Square. Art Splash offers a rich blend of fine art and quality artisanship, whimsy and entertainment. Includes a national art competition, Lake Country Art Show, Jr. Rembrandt Art Show, artisans selling their work and demonstrating their craft, food and musical entertainment. May 5-7, 2006 - FESTIVAL - Abilene: 23rd Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Dignitary dinner is Friday. June 1-4, 2006 - SPORTING EVENT - Amarillo: Cowboy Roundup USA. Coors Ranch Rodeo & World Championship Chuckwagon Roundup and World's Greatest Horseman Finals. Cowboys from ranches all over the region compete in the ranch rodeo, and chuck wagon cooks guard their recipes carefully to win first prize in the highest-paid chuck wagon cook-off in the country. June 2 - August 19, 2006 (Tuesday through Saturday) - PLAY OR MUSICAL - Canyon: TEXAS!. Outdoor musical drama performed summers in the Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo, TX, sprawled across a 600 foot cliff behind the stage. This production showcases the best in acting, dancing, live music and theatre music that the stage has ever seen. The history of the Panhandle has never been more alive. Time: 8:30pm. Cost: $7-$25. Tickets during preview week (June 2, 3, 6, 7, & 8) will be discounted 25%. A barbecue dinner is available nightly from 6-8 pm for $8.50 per person ($7 for children 11 and under). July 4, 2006 - OTHER EVENT - Amarillo: July 4th Fireworks. The Texas Panhandle's largest fireworks display, sponsored by the Amarillo Globe-News. July 8, 2006 - FESTIVAL - Levelland: Early Settlers Festival. For nearly 40 years, some 15,000 people come to celebrate country, bluegrass and Tejano music performances, old settler activities, more than 50 food booths, games, horseshoes, activities for kids, and a parade that lasts an hour or more. This year, folks will "Do the Drag" on Friday evening before in cars representing our history. Sponsored by the Levelland Area Chamber of Commerce. Time: All day. August 19, 2006 - FESTIVAL - Amarillo: Polk Street Block Party. One of Amarillo's biggest parties is the Polk Street Block Party.
