Frommer's Review
You can't leave town without stopping in at this San Antonio institution,
if only for a hearty bowl of split-pea soup or a piece of the signature
cherry cheesecake. The large, open room with its worn wooden booths is a
door into the city's German past. Live German bands play on Saturday from 5
to 8pm. It's a great refueling station near Alamo Plaza for the entire
family, with a large kid-friendly selection and retro low prices. For around
$5, a good, greasy Reuben or a kielbasa plate should keep you going the rest
of the day. Come Friday or Saturday evening if you want your food
accompanied by accordion music.
