Frommer's Review
There's lots of good Americanized Italian fare in San Antonio, but for
authentic cucina italiana, prepared by a chef from Rome (by way of
New York), this is the place. The kitchen is particularly strong in pastas
and risotto, all made fresh on the premises, and the potato gnocchi are a
special treat. The Tuscan yellow dining rooms are airy, even if some of the
tables are a bit too close together, and the romantic Red Room Bar is a
popular place to listen to live music on the weekends.
Tip: If you want to economize, share a generous salad (such
as the primavera with artichokes, asparagus, hearts of palm, and pecorino
cheese) followed by a house-made pasta (the bowtie with salmon, say). Of
course, then you'd miss such excellent secondi (main courses) as the
veal Marsala, with a touch of cream in the delicate sauce, or the
saltimbocca, a Roman specialty.
