Frommer's Review
You'd be hard-pressed to guess that this ramshackle former brothel (which
opened in 1890, in case you were wondering) near the Hwy. 281 underpass
hosts one of the hippest haunts in San Antonio. But, as every foodie in town
can tell you, it's bright and inviting inside, and you'll find everything
from comfort food (pot roast, say, or a ham-and-Swiss sandwich) to regional
Mexican cuisine (the chiles rellenos en nogada -- in a walnut cream
sauce -- are super). The toasted English bread with roast garlic spread or
eggplant purée goes great with many of the fine -- and generally affordable
-- wines available by the glass; there's a good beer selection, too. And
don't worry -- even if you've had a few too many, you're not imagining it.
The house really is leaning.
