Joey's is a great little place
to get out of the crowd. Once
you're there, step up to the
bar (which is strangely
reminiscent of a religious
alter) and enjoy its
assortment of Texas brews on
tap. If you get a hankering to
shoot some pool, take your
pick from a dozen pool tables
located in a large room with
high ceilings directly behind
the bar. The balcony at Joey's
is a cozy, quiet refuge for
couples, and outside on the
patio you can relax under the
stars.

RIVER WALK. The Jim Cullum
Jazz Band is world-famous, and
you can catch them six nights
a week at this River Walk
mainstay. Performing under an
acoustic-friendly glass
enclosure, the band plays at
8pm each evening; local jazz
groups take their place on
Sundays. If you'd rather catch
some sun and a view of the
water, head to the patio,
where jazz duos take the stage
in the afternoon and play
until the wee hours. Savor a
glass of wine and a slice of
cheesecake as you take in the
city's best jazz.
