Frommer's Review
This hotel is not all that historic -- the 1904 building it occupies was
gutted, so only the facade is old -- but who cares when you've got
attractive rooms with luxury appointments for very reasonable prices? Rich
greens, gold, and gilt touches -- as well as nice carpeting -- lend a
richness to the guest quarters, as do the upscale bed and bath linens,
robes, CD players, and such perks as a free overnight shoeshine. Some rooms
offer balconies and/or whirlpool tubs. And the savings afforded by moderate
room rates are supplemented by such things as free bottled water and local
phone calls. Opened in 2003, this small property became an instant hit with
conventioneers, who like the location -- some 4 blocks from the convention
center -- and in-room business perks. It's great for leisure travelers, too,
as it's right near La Villita and a quiet part of the River Walk, and close
to both the heart of downtown and the King William district. Note:This
is a totally nonsmoking hotel.
