Frommer's Review
If I were feeling flush and didn't want to spend a lot of time downtown,
this would be my favorite place to settle in for a week. The setting, on 200
acres of former ranch land on the far-west side of San Antonio, is idyllic.
The resort's low-slung native limestone buildings, inspired by the
architecture of the nearby Hill Country, showcase the best of Texas design.
The on-site activities, ranging from golf to tubing on the 950-foot-long
Ramblin' River, seem to be endless.
And it just keeps getting better. A spa, added with the new millennium.
Low-key and relaxing, it boasts all the latest treatments, and is one of the
best pampering palaces in this part of Texas. And the rooms underwent a
major revamp in 2004-05, morphing from country cute to haute Dallas:
neutral-toned rugs, dark wood furnishing, silks and brocades in shades of
mocha and taupe, and cushy new bedding. Many offer French doors that open
out onto wood-trimmed porches. And 9 more Arthur Hill-designed holes of golf
are in the offing (bringing the total up to 27 holes).
The resort is also extremely family-friendly. SeaWorld sits at your
doorstep, there are free laundry facilities and a country store for
supplies, and every room has a refrigerator (not stocked with goodies,
alas). When you're tired of all that family bonding, the Hyatt Kids Club
will keep the youngsters happily occupied while you spend some quality time
relaxing on Ramblin' River.
